Nine years ago, Richard Allen fled England and his controlling father. Determined to live his own life, he took to the sea and settled in the Caribbean, joining a band of treasure-hunting pirates and adopting the persona of a carefree, seductive Frenchman named Jean Paul to guard the secrets of his past. When he slips back into England to carry out an urgent task, Richard becomes infatuated with a married woman, Georgina Malory. But his reckless attempt to woo Georgina at a masked ball turns out to be the worst mistake of his life because it brings him face-to-face with another beautiful woman.

Thrilled that her solicitors have finally come up with a way to free her from her betrothal contract to the Earl of Manford's son who abandoned her years ago, heiress Julia Miller is ready for the marriage mart and hopes to find that perfect someone at her friend Georgina's ball. Charmed by a masked Frenchman who gives her her first kiss, she can't help but pursue this mysterious man - until she makes a shocking discovery. Now, to avoid falling into a ruthless nobleman's trap, Julia must enter a risky, intimate charade with a man she never believed she could love.

That Perfect Someone (Audible Audio Edition) Johanna Lindsey Laural Merlington Brilliance Audio Books

Is that supposed to be Regan/Reggie/Regina on the cover? I'm confused, because the tanned brunette looks nothing like our leading lady, described as having alabaster skin, ebony hair and crystal blue eyes (or the like). Perhaps this is Selena, sneaking away from a rendezvous with Nicholas....

***SPOILERS AHEAD*** Nicholas was emotionally cruel to Reggie for much of the story, and seduced her at a ball - outdoors. Reggie comes across as both a level-headed lady and a young harridan; the shouting/screaming scenes between the H/h were just plain sad. I like "redemption" stories but this one lacked warmth and intelligence, at least until the very end. And for Reggie to be kidnapped twice (once by her own family, who were well-connected but didn't know Nicholas had married their niece?!) was a bit hard to swallow.

This is not my favorite story by Johanna Lindsey (although I'm sure I'll read another at some point).

That Perfect Someone (Audible Audio Edition) Johanna Lindsey Laural Merlington Brilliance Audio Books Reviews

I have been reading Johanna Lindsey books for more years then I care to think of and I will say the Malory series is one of my favorites. This book is listed under Malory Series even though the two main characters are not Malory or Anderson but close enough plus the added bonus of having some of the family as secondary characters. This book was fun and romantic which is normal for Johanna Lindsey. I would definitely recommend this book!!!
I actually liked this book because the heroine was fabulous. She was innocent without being too naive. I also loved how much she loves her family. I liked the love interest though his stubbornness started to get a little old by the end of the book.

The author did a great job describing the people, places and clothing and it helped bring the book to life. For the first in a series, she also gave enough of teasers to really keep you wanting to read more of this endearing family.

The narrator did not bother as much as other reviewers but her attempts to differentiate the characters by accents did get a little annoying. I will see if it bothers me in the next book.
This is absolutely not on par with her other work. There is no chemistry between the couple and they are barely together throughout the book. I finished it because I kept thinking it would get better but it did not. A huge waste of time and money. And I write this as a long time fan of hers and The Mallorys.
A new family to join. I'm a sucker for series that follows a group as these are. What a great introduction to all the many characters found in the first book. Reggie and Nicholas start and end with kidnappings hers and his. This is the most fun I've had in a while, the interaction between family members who truly love and care for each other is marvelous. Of course we have all the angst of he loves me he loves me not and family who can battle among themselves but stand together in a crisis.. The pirate the confirmed bachelor's and a few bastards thrown in with jealous women, what else do you need. I met the Mallorys some time ago and so glad to get acquainted again, plot makes for many more great reading times to come.
If I weren't already familiar with the Malory family & the extended series, I would have detested Nicholas Eden. He was so cruel to Regina. She was so sweet & beautiful, she didn't deserve the lengthy heartache he caused. He would lash out at her with hurtful, angry words so often, she had no choice but to start defending herself. But then he would get upset over her 'expected' rejection. He'd told Regina that she would regret her choice of husband well before they married. He later told Eleanor that it was the one thing he'd wanted to be wrong about, but HE was the antagonist! Weird mindset. He ended up being a great guy in the end, but geez, nearly every scene between the two of them was depressing. Even his plan for a romantic evening was handled horribly. Rather than be nice to Regina, he decided to get her drunk & take advantage of her. The next morning she was left to wonder if she was losing her mind, because she couldn't clearly recall the events of the night before. The only saving grace besides the wonderful Regina was the addition of her uncles. Her cousin, Jeremy Malory, age sixteen here, was especially a delight.
